Can I use AQUAPANEL® Cement Board Outdoor for interiors?
Not recommended. Here is why.
AQUAPANEL® Cement Board Outdoor is used as a plaster baseboard for water-managed and ventilated facades, as well as in exterior suspended ceilings and is therefore a cement board that has been specifically developed for these applications. AQUAPANEL® Cement Board Outdoor is a relatively dense material and has a greater modulus of elasticity. For this reason, tiling could be problematic. Even the use of a flexible tile adhesive is not enough to absorb the resulting shear forces between the AQUAPANEL® Cement Board Outdoor and the tiles. Furthermore, a one-sided water absorption or release, with a resulting stronger deformation, is to be expected. The "internal stress relief" sets in at a later stage in a relatively hard material, and as a result, cracks may appear on the ceramic tiles. In addition, AQUAPANEL® Cement Board Outdoor is more vapor-tight than AQUAPANEL® Cement Board Indoor and therefore the water that penetrates the wall construction will have more difficulty diffusing through the board. This has the consequence that any resulting moisture may not dry out to a sufficient degree on the back.
