Depends on project nature and local regulations. The recommendation is to ask the experts on the field.
The architects, specifiers, or static engineer have to decide this, according to the building physics, static requirements and complying the local building regulations.
Planning of insulation is done by specialist planner construction physics but a general recommendation of effective thermal insulating measures include:
- Adequate insulation of the building envelope
- Achieve a small U-value (represents the thermal conductivity of a wall) the smaller the U-value, the better the insulation of a wall.
- Avoidance of thermal bridges (i.e. thermal leak in the building shell) can cause a different façade appearance or moisture formation.
- Correct airing and heating
- Orientation of the building
