AQUAPANEL® Cement Board Outdoor is designed for specific exterior applications such as water-managed facades and suspended ceilings. While it excels in these areas, it's not recommended for interior use due to several key factors:
- Incompatibility with tiling: AQUAPANEL® Cement Board Outdoor possesses a higher density and modulus of elasticity, making it unsuitable for tiling applications. The use of flexible tile adhesive also isn't sufficient to mitigate the resulting shear forces between the board and tiles, leading to potential issues during installation and use.
- One-Sided Water Absorption: Furthermore, the AQUAPANEL® Outdoor board's characteristic of one-sided water absorption can lead to uneven water absorption or release, potentially causing deformation and stress on ceramic tiles. Cracks may develop in the board due to delayed stress relief, compromising the integrity of the tiled surface.
- Reduced Moisture Diffusion: AQUAPANEL® Cement Board Outdoor is more vapor-tight compared to AQUAPANEL® Cement Board Indoor. Moisture penetrating the wall construction may struggle to diffuse adequately through the board, resulting in insufficient drying on the board's rear surface.
